Larsen loves Bacardi?

Category: family, larsen, travel – luis – 8:23 pm

We have been in Puerto Rico for a few days now, and in that time Larsen has shown Sara what a computer is (I’m not sure she understood a word Larsen said, but it is the thought that counts…right?), re-acquainted himself with some of the toys left-behind since our last visit, went for a tour of Bacardi Rums, and showed abuela some good ol’ grandson-lovin’.

Img 4323For the Bacardi tour you are taken to a different building on a trolley car, and as the tour comes to an end you are supposed to get back in the trolley in order to get back to the starting point (and you really want to make it back quickly since you get two free drinks at the end of the tour!). We were at the front of the pack so we were one of first ones bac. As we sat there waiting for everyone to board the trolley Larsen decided to strike a conversation with the people sitting directly behind us. That conversation went something like this:

Larsen: “I have an Apple Macintosh computer, it’s an eMac. What do you have?”
stranger: “I have a Windows computer.”
Larsen: “You need to get an Apple Computer”
stranger: “And what do you use your computer for?”
Larsen: “I use iPhoto and iChat and iMovie”
stranger: “Oh really? How do I get one of those?”
Larsen: “You need to go to www.apple.com and buy it”
stranger: “You know, your kid should be getting kick-backs from Apple for this”
Me: “I know!”

We are off to see abuela

Category: family, larsen – luis – 8:02 pm

Img 4309Today we “jumped the pond” all the way to Puerto Rico and visit mom for a couple of weeks. It had been a while since our last trip and we try to come visit at least once a year. Larsen was a trooper during our long 4.5 hour direct flight from DFW to San Juan, partially thanks to his Game Boy Advanced and his Leapster.

For the first part of our stay we are meeting my brother Papo, and my nieces Nanette (and family) and Paulette, at the Westin Rio Mar resort where we’ll be spending a few days starting on July 31st. It is going to be fun to meet everyone under such nice surroundings and easy access to the pool, the beach and casino. Larsen gets to see his cousins (I guess 2nd-cousins would be more accurate…don’t ask) and we get to have some adult time as there is an awesome “Kids Club”. The kids can stay and play there while we adults have dinner. Yup, I think it’s going to be fun.

Happy birthday to me!

Category: family, larsen – luis – 7:43 pm

Today I turned 39 and officially became a dirty old man…sigh! Mandi and Larsen were busy today preparing for my arrival from work with signs letting the whole neighborhood know that although I may look 20-something, I really am not. Just go it, OK?

We also got ourselves a babysitter, so we are going out for a yummy birthday dinner at Steve Field’s Steak and Lobster Lounge. If you have never been to Steve Field’s you should!

Oh, but that is not all…oh no. For my birthday Mandi gave me a certificate for a tandem parachute jump, something I have always wanted to do. This is awesome!

The best fireworks show ever!

Category: family, friends, larsen – luis – 8:33 pm

OK, not really. We had good intentions though! Since our office is in Addison, we all had the great idea of having our spouses and children come meet us there so that we could be a walk away from “Kaboom Town“. Unfortunately it started to rain, and our “walk” turned into a “drive”. After driving over to the nearest empty field we could find, and a place to park, we were treated to about 10 fireworks and then the show suddenly stopped…indefinitely! Yes, the show was cancelled and we all spent a better part of that evening fighting the traffic back home. Ugh!

Fortunately, prior to our disappointment, the kids had fun while we waited for a break in the rain.
